Craft lives on in many forms – from food craftsmanship and the cultivation of heritage varieties to tailoring, machinery and the shoeing of horses.
Yet many of the crafts that were once part of everyday life have faded from memory. Others are practised by only a few and are at risk of disappearing altogether. They live on in the hands of the craftspeople – not in books.
Throughout May, Den Gamle By shines a spotlight on craft and invites you to get closer than ever before. Close enough to work with lime, clay and soil – and to feel the heat of fire, iron and horsehair. Workshops open their doors, craftspeople share their knowledge, and each weekend offers a deeper dive into different crafts.
