When craft and horse power kept life moving

23 – 25 May 2026

This Whitsun weekend, the streets of Den Gamle By are filled with horses, historic carriages and the crafts that kept everything moving.

Experience the cobbled streets from a horse’s-eye view as more horses and historic carriages than usual take over the town, offering a vivid glimpse into a time when transport, work and everyday life were powered by horses.

Get up close as the farrier fires up the forge and demonstrates the demanding craft of trimming hooves and hot shoeing – a rare opportunity to see the work in practice. You can also watch the wheelwright at work as large iron tyres are heated and carefully fitted onto carriage wheels with skill and precision.
