Throughout July, experience Den Gamle By during the long, light summer evenings – with historic shops, lively courtyards, music, food and a wonderful summer atmosphere.
Drop by after work, after a day at the beach, or before a night out in town. Open every day in July from 10.00 – 21.00.
Every Tuesday, a new Aarhus food maker joins forces with Den Gamle By to host a communal dinner under the open sky – from an Eastern European 'mleko bar' to French chartreuse and Balkan-inspired cooking over an open fire.
Every Thursday evening, new artists take over the courtyard with live music, DJs and summer vibes during the long, light evenings – from rave and boogie to street jazz and crackling vinyl.
In the courtyards of the 1970s neighbourhood, the Alley Cat sneaks in and throws a party every Thursday evening. On the other nights, floral camping chairs and questionable decorations take up the space while shady dealings take place by the back door of the corner shop.

Throughout the streets and historic homes, you can meet the town’s people – from the sailor and the barrel organ player to the farmhand and the kitchen maid.

Step back to a time when life spilled out onto the pavements in the late nineteenth century, with white picket fences, market stalls and the first pavement cafés – complete with open-faced sandwiches and ice-cold beer from the outdoor bar.
