Step back into the 1970s – a time of women’s liberation, communes, Bob Dylan and flared trousers. Discover or rediscover this colourful decade across the generations and explore the homes, shops, workshops and places to eat and drink in the 1974 neighbourhood.

 

See the moped exhibition ‘Freedom on Two Wheels’

From the first bicycles with rear-mounted engines to the mopeds of 1970s youth culture – trace the moped’s development through around 20 iconic models.

Live music at the Bent J Jazz Bar

Enjoy live jazz music and buy yourself a classic "Aarhus set" at the legendary Aarhus bar Bent J.

Go for a ride in a VW Beetle

Take a ride in one of the most popular car models of the 1970s, and experience the special sound of the boxer engine.

Check out the boutique inspired by The Beatles' Yellow Submarine and buy one of the popular 'granddad shirts' or purple nappies.

Children and the young at heart can play with hula hoops, or try skipping and jumping with jump ropes.

Explore 1970s creativity and DIY with recycled and cheap materials the way it was done back then.

The street musician brings back the good times with hits from the 60s and 70s.

Explore Danish 70s homes – visit the commune, the nuclear family and the hippie parents.

From yellow split pea soup to porn magazines behind a curtain. Explore shops such as Rahbeks Minimarked, Pouls Radio and Bogcentralen.

See the mini-exhibition ‘The Prairie’

An exhibition about suburban dreams and everyday life in the 1970s, told through the words and photographs of Skjoldhøjparken residents.

Feel the rush of the mopeds through the streets

See, smell and hear the vintage mopeds as the tearaways race through the 1970s neighbourhood. Look out for the classic cars in the streets too.

Visit the workshops in the backyard

Explore the backyard workshops, including the plumbing workshop and the bicycle and moped repair shop.

10 am – 5 pm

Taste the beer in Bryggergården

Hear about brewing in days gone by in Bryggerkælderen and the courtyard, and enjoy a taste and a chat with the Brewers’ Guild.

Meet the sharpener

Bring your own knives and have them sharpened by the sharpener.

A Taste of the 1970s

Take a nostalgic trip through the flavours of the decade and enjoy some of its best-loved classics, such as prawn cocktail, lemon mousse or stjerneskud at Restaurant Gæstgivergården.
