On this guided tour, we take you back to a time when illness was a basic condition of life, and when birth, pain, and death were part of everyday existence. Through encounters with people and their stories of disease, we explore health, treatment, and living conditions from the 19th century up to 1927 – seen through a contemporary lens.
We follow life from birth and infant mortality to schooling, home remedies, toothache, and the medicine of the time, which could both relieve suffering and prove life-threatening.
