Den Gamle By is full of experiences to enjoy during the summer. Embark on a journey back in time through the streets, reliving the childhoods of past generations. Take the children to the 70s creative DIY tent, chat with the town's residents, and explore the flourishing historic gardens.

Meet the residents

As you wander through the streets and homes, you can meet the townspeople and servants. Encounter the postman, the priest, and the petty cashier, or chat with the farm labourer and the kitchen maid as she prepares the day's meal.

Activities at the Festival Grounds

At the Festival Grounds, you can take a leisurely break with an ice cream from the food stall while the children enjoy the swings, carousel, or a game of skittles. The jesters will ensure the festivities are lively.

DIYs from the 70s in the creative tent

Explore DIY projects reminiscent of the 1970s in the creative tent. Let your children immerse themselves in hands-on DIYs using recycled and affordable materials, reminiscent of the era. Join for a new creative activity three times a day in the tent at the Festival Grounds.

Step into people's homes and lives

Explore residences ranging from the 2014 rainbow family to the 1970s commune, the homes of the modern times of the 1920s, and the merchant's house in the 1864 district.

The 2014 street

Discover Den Gamle By's latest addition, the street from 2014. Alongside two unique homes – one belonging to a single woman, the other to a rainbow family – you'll find an array of shops. From Blockbuster to Danske Bank, 7-Eleven to a tanning salon and a pizzeria, there's something for everyone to explore.

Pedestrian street and historic shops

Chat with the staff at Rahbek's Mini Market and Pouls Radio in the 1974 street, or purchase historical goods from the bookshop and the hardware store in the 1927 district.

Lunch at Gæstgivergården

At restaurant Gæstgivergården, you can savour traditional Danish cuisine in a cosy setting. Sample the popular 'stjerneskud' dish alongside Den Gamle By's beer, or choose a lunch box for the children to enjoy and take home afterwards.

Meet the craftsmen 

Encounter artisans as they work on historical crafts in the streets and alleys. Listen to the gardener's stories, chat with the plumber, or visit the thatcher at Tobaksgården. The program varies throughout the summer.

Experience the town from a carriage

Take a ride on the carriage and view the journey through the market town from a new perspective. You'll find the carriage at the corner of Algade and Aagade.
