About us

The Old Town is a 5-star world-class experience, and is under the patronage of Her Majesty the Queen. 75 historical houses, gardens, exhibitions, houses, shops, and workshops. The museum is a living and breathing experience of what it was like to live and work in a Danish market town, as it was in the old days. Here it is possible to experience a market town at the time of Hans Christian Andersen, where fairytale awaits just around the corner. Meet the people and characters of yesteryear, experience life as it was in their living rooms and kitchens; and smell the flowers right in their own gardens. Try out the old children’s games, or go on an exploration through-out the museums extensive exhibitions. Den Gamle By is also the home of The Danish Poster Museum, which displays interesting exhibitions throughout the year. Also ensure to visit the The Danish Museum of Clocks and Watches and Den Gamle By’s large toy museum. Traditional tea garden, historical shops and a large Museum shop. Living history, theme days and extensive Christmas activities.
