Cake Days
If you have a sweet tooth then visit Den Gamle By on our cake-themed days where we offer a traditional selection of cakes from Southern Jutland.
24th – 25th April
Play Days
There is more to old-fashioned games than stilts and hobbyhorses. Museum staff will be on hand to show and instruct visitors in how to play some of the historical games, many of which have been forgotten today. It is an active day for the whole family.
30th April– 2nd May
Soldier Days
The Soldier Days are all about the soldiers, wars, and arms of the 19th century. Meet the Danish soldiers of 1864, have a chat with the experts who demonstrate the old weapons, and enjoy the military orchestra.
14th – 16th May
Musical Whitsuntide
For the second time, Den Gamle By hosts a musical celebration of Whitsuntide focusing on music through the times. Visit the museum and enjoy the wonderful tunes.
22nd – 24th May (Whitsun)
Garden Days
A weekend in bloom where focus will be on the garden.
21. - 22. august
Aarhus Festival Fair
You can experience a traditional market atmosphere at the Fairground with swing boats, a skittle lane, and a merry-go-round for children. You can also try your hand at can tossing, the fish pond, and the horse carousel or enjoy a candied apple. The Arion Choir will be entertaining at Elsinore Theatre and you can enjoy the music along with a piece of traditional layer cake and a cup of coffee.
2nd – 5th September (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of the Aarhus Festival)
Crafts Days
The Crafts Days focus on the art of building and construction and you can join our skilled builders for a tour behind the scenes of The Old Town. Join the craftsmen for a chat, get answers to your questions, and try out some of the techniques for yourself.
11th – 12th September
Brewer Days
Brewer Days are all about brewing beer. Visit the historical buildings, have a chat with the brewers and take in the cosy atmosphere.
18th – 19th September
Christmas in The Old Town
Market stalls, historical shops, exhibitions, and Living History.
