In the newly opened 2014 street, you can visit the rainbow family, a lesbian couple with three children and a single woman’s flat.

Drop into Blockbuster, and cast your mind back to DVDs, games consoles and pick-n-mix sweets or enjoy the authentic public house atmosphere at the Bent J. Jazz Bar.

1974

Welfare and open-mindedness 1974-1950

The times are now characterised by free thinking, feminism and experiments with new forms of living. Visit people’s homes with the working couple, the single mother, the headmaster and the Turkish guest workers.

Shop in the mini-market, enjoy a slice of cake at the baker’s and notice the smell of petrol at the moped workshop.

There is also a book exchange, a hairdresser, a plumber, a gynecologist, a TV and radio shop and privies.

1927

Modern times 1927-1900

By 1927, Aarhus has become a modern city with gable advertisements, pavements and telephone cables.

Visit the Bookshop or the Ironmonger, and buy goods steeped in history.

Try smelling the 4711 perfume at Schou’s Soap House and see the latest Ford and Citröen models in the car dealership.

1864

The old town 1900-1600

The town looks as it did in Hans Christian Andersen’s time with half-timbered buildings, cobbles and horse-drawn carriages. Have a chat with the baker’s wife, the farmhand or the kitchen maid.

Taste the vanilla biscuits and cakes which have been made according to recipes from before 1880, stroll around the square and visit the largest and finest house, the Mintmaster’s Mansion, or drop into the Merchant’s House.

See the vegetable and ornamental gardens, and enjoy the scent of the pelargoniums and geraniums at the Bernstorff Market Nursery.
